He was predeceased by: his wife Shirley M. Kotnik; his daughter-in-law Linda; and his brother Bobby Hill. He is survived by: his sons, Ron of Savannah, Ill, Dan (Lisa) of Toivola and Tom (Carla Clubine) of St. Paul Park; his grandchildren, Alex (Bethany), Andrea, John and Caleb; and his brother Kenny Carlson (Charlotte) of Aurora. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
