She was predeceased by: her parents, Archie Thompson and Etta Thompson (Franklin); her former husband Galen Riess; her daughter Marvel Betts; and her sisters, Jean Luce and Della Hughes.
She is survived by: her husband John Schmitz; her son Evan Riess of Dodge Center; her son-in-law Ronald Betts of Rochester; and her stepchildren, Catherine Graham (Tim), Karen Kelly of Davenport, Iowa. and Steven Schmitz (Mary) of Broadhead, Wisconsin.. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
