He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Jr. Essen and Frekea Van Essen (Jelgerhuis); his former wife Mary; his sister Grace Corbin; his siblings-in-law, Ralph Corbin, William Vander Werf, Peter Schouten and Betty Van Essen; and also, Peter and Cornelia Schelhaas.
He is survived by: his sister Gezena (Jo); his wife Judy; his daughters, Beva Snyder (Larry), Deb Christians (Rod), Gwen Kreun (Clyde), Chandler, Barb Van't Hof (Alan), Leota, Sharla Vander Woude (Leon) and Lori Boeve (Mark); his siblings, Jo Vander Werf, Rose Koele (Duane) of Sioux Center, IA and Larry Van Essen of Visalia, CA; and his stepchildren, Valerie Vander Top (Vince) and Preston Zwart. He is also survived by his children.
