He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Carl Swenson and Lois Eileen Glatzmaier; his sister Elizabeth Swenson; his brothers-in-law, Jim Borgerding and James Daugherty; and his nieces, Molly and Ann Borgerding.
He is survived by: his wife Janet Kay Paschke; his children, Mary Swenson Schreiber, Colonel Richard Swenson (Tanya), John Swenson (Margaret), Catherine Isabella Sirvio (Chuck), Christopher Swenson, Debra Lynn Ewens (Steve), Lori Kay Anderson (David Mark) and Barbara Jean Swenson (Syd Ewens); his siblings, Marge Borgerding, MaryJo Daugherty and Dr. Greg Swenson (Jeanette); his grandchildren, Zachary, Matthew, Elizabeth Schreiber, Hope, Reece, Aaron Swenson, Thomas Hiemenz, Carlos Sirvio, Marty, Leslie Ewens, Hannan Lisa and Chase Anderson; and his great grandchild Isla Kitchak. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
