He was predeceased by: his parents, Emmanuel Kempel and Myrtle Kempel (McFarland); and his wife Sandra Haag. He is survived by: his children, Janet Sullivan (Dan) of Watkins, Judy Hemmesch (Richard Rodstad) of Eden Valley and Mark Kempel (Tamera) of Buffalo; his grandchildren, Lacy, Jay, Brittany, Brooke, Shianne, Taniah, Ryan, Michael, Kayla, Ashley, Jessica and Tyler; and his siblings, Colleen Dahl of Desert Springs, CA, Cheryl Towner (Vern) of Hudson, WI, LeMont Kempel (Debbie) of Wyoming, MN, Renae Bleecker of Stacy, MN and Kathy Schreiner (Roger) of Gwinner, ND.. He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren.
