He was predeceased by: his parents, George Hermanus and Ruth Irene Smith (Hammer); his brothers, Jerry and Paul Smith; and his son-in-law Rick Olson.
He is survived by: his wife Dolly Jeffrey (Judith); his children, Janet (Rick Olson), Jim (Suzanne Antrim), Kristi (John Brutlag) and David (Leah Weigel); his sisters, Evelyn Hensrud and Pat Erickson; and his siblings-in-law, Bill Jeffrey and Doreen Smith (Geatz). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Red River Valley Hospice, First Lutheran Church, or Valley Senior Living.
