He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul and Austrid; his sister Elaine Johnstone (Jim); and his sister-in-law Shari Kohns. He is survived by: his wife Jeanette Ritten; his children, Gerald (Lauren) of Annandale, VA, Robert of Shorewood, MN, Jennifer (Jay Neppel), Laura (Pat Brickson) and David (Olivia May) of Ann Arbor, MI; his grandchildren, Kyle, Alex, Kaly, Aric, Kara, Julia, Joshua, Will, Hannah, Grace, Eleanor and Avery; and his brother Larry Kohns of Olathe, KS..

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Development Fund.
