He was predeceased by: his former wife Mary Ballantyne; his son David; and his parents, John and Emma. He is survived by: his wife Joyce of Eagle Bend; his children, Gerald of Perham, Linda Warren (Bill) of Eagle Bend, Barb Wittmer (Roger) of Osakis and Myron (Erica); his grandchildren, Shelley Johnson and Kelly Dykhoff; and his mother-in-law Eva Freyholtz. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; 3sisters and a brother.
