He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph F. Garrett and Alice Garrett; and his brother David Garrett. He is survived by: his wife Ina; his children, Kathy Bassett (Tony), Joseph F. Garrett III (Ann), Linda Callanan (Mike) and Nancy Garrett (Kevin Leuthold); his sister Carol Hurd (Don); and his sister-in-law Eileen Garrett. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
