He was predeceased by: his parents, Ivan Harold Lyness and Clara Alice Helen Lyness (Nickel); and his brother William. He is survived by: his wife Violet; and his children, Robert Lyness (Rebecca) of Cloquet, MN, Margaret Castellini (Ronald) of Duluth, MN and Steven Lyness (Sandra) of St. Cloud, MN.. He is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
