He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Hammel and Margaret Hammel (Hanenberger); his wife Mollie Reeves; his grandson Dayton J. Pennington; and his brother Gordon Hammel.
He is survived by: his children, Robin Erickson (Steve), Renee Craig (Mike) of Surprise, AZ and Rodney Hammel (Liane) of Eyota; his grandchildren, Kelsey Loomis (Jason), Courtney Baer (Cody), Carley Erickson (Max Fenske), Whitney Gilliam (Cameron), Samuel Pennington, Riley Hammel (Morgan) and Kaylee Hammel (Dakota Merchlewitz); his great grandchildren, Lila Loomis, Penelope, Madelyn Baer, Lennon, Lincoln Fenske, Megan Gilliam, Chloe, Gretta Hammel, Kayden and Weston Merchlewitz; and his siblings, Ardith Ihrke and Howard Hammel (Susan Thompson) of St. Charles.
