It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Virginia Ulschmid Thompson (Detroit Lakes, Minnesota), who passed away on January 4, 2021, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her former husband Conrad Martinson; her husband Robert Dale Thompson; her siblings, Virgil, Wilfred, Peter, Duane, Eugene, Theresa Necham and Geraldine Schmit; her daughter Winnifred Rose Renney (Kohler); and her granddaughter Tricia Rose Renney.
She is survived by: her former spouse Royal Wilfred Kohler; her children, Virgil (Sandy), Mark Kohler (Val) of Frazee, MN, Tom Kohler of Detroit Lakes, MN, Randy Kohler of Detroit Lakes, MN, Elizabeth Lamson of Palisade, MN, Kathy Stenger (Joey) of Detroit Lakes, MN, Marianne Prendergast of McLean, VA, Annette Kaldahl (Daniel), Jane Bachmann (Vince) of Frazee, MN and Jackie George (Simon) of Frazee, MN; her sister Rose Pitzel of Moorhead, MN; and her sister-in-law Winnie Ulschmid. She is also survived by 38 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Ginnie volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital, Detroit Lakes, as a candy striper her senior year of high school, assisting the nuns during the influenza pandemic.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Christian Mothers of Sacred Heart Church, the Becker County Food Pantry or a charity of choice in her name.
