He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Nelson and Jenny Nelson (Larson); his wife Ethel Nelson; his siblings, Irene Doten and Dean Nelson (Shirley); and his brother-in-law Harold Sarvie.

He is survived by: his son Russel Nelson (Lori); his siblings, Ethel Andrus (Ted) and Dennis Nelson (Mary-Alice); and his siblings-in-law, Donald Sarvie (Charlotte), Mildred Blauert (Arnold) and Edwin Sarvie.
