He was predeceased by: his parents, Tom Loverink and Rena Loverink (Dykstra); his siblings, John, Jack, Evert, Everett, Herbert, Harm, Mary, Rene, Jenny, Dorothy, Stella, Nellie and Gertie; his stepmother Bertha; and his grandson David Garret Messinger.

He is survived by: his nephews, Cornie and Tom; his children, Dee Messinger (Bill) of Stewartville and Derwin Loverink (Tammy) of Rittman; his grandchildren, April Woodbury (Randy) of Ankeny, Anette Messinger of Converse, Lacy Hamilton (Casey) of Rochester, Roxanna Martin of Taconite, Derwin Loverink (Maryno) of Ohio and Aiden Loverink of Rittman; his great grandchildren, Abigail Woodbury, Isabel Marks, Danita Messinger, Mikayla Messinger, Liam Southwick, Paisley Southwick, Parker Hamilton, Isaac Hamilton, Skyler Martin, Logan Martin and Derwin Loverink III; his stepbrother Jerry Loverink of South St; his wife Lois of Deer River; his stepchildren, Kathy Henke of Deer River, Art Ogle (Lori) of Deer River, Darren Ogle of Deer River and Doug Ogle (Keeley) of Bovey; and his grandchildren, Lisa Nissen (Ben), Jodi Sheller (Shaun), Jamie Hoey (Phil), Anna Grooms (Paul), Leah Ogle, Twyla Niemi (Chad), Kari Stolley, Tiffany Marsh, Kayleen Monacelli (Kori), Riley Henke, Amber Todd and Rachel Todd. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
