He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Melcher and Mary Ann Melcher (Sapa); his in-laws, George and Ethel Loher; his siblings, Patrick, Marlene (Iverson) and Carole (Matejka); and his brothers-in-law, William "Bill" Iverson and Tom Matejka.

He is survived by: his wife Carol Ann Loher of Deer Creek; his daughter Laurie Helmrichs (Milo) of Rozet, WY; his granddaughter Megan Tripp (Ashley) of Moorhead; and his sister Patricia (Montez) of Edina.
