He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Mechelke and Alice Mechelke (Mogren); his wife Pat; and his daughter Barbara Carstens. He is survived by: his daughters, Judy Seidel (Bob) of Eureka, MT and Kim Hughes (Dave) of Outing; and his grandchildren, Jeff Seidel (Beth), Tim Seidel (Kim), Stacey McKinney (Shaun), Jessica Chalich (Justin), Sara Smith, Joshua Morris, Scott Carstens, Erin Tolchinsky (Alexander) and Derek Hughes. He is also survived by twenty-three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
