He was predeceased by: his parents, Nels Carstensen and Effie Carstensen (Holt); and his siblings, Paul (Ione), Russell, Clinton (Darlene), Lyle (Ruth) and Edna (Don).
He is survived by: his wife Darlene Hughes; his children, Connie Swanson (Bruce), Danny Carstensen (Paula), Bob Carstensen (Kris), Ann Tully (Brett) and Brian Carstensen (Carrie); his grandchildren, Wendy, Corey, Josh, Jake, Bobbi Jo, Anna, Naomi, Brittany, Lily, Nels and Nora; and his sister-in-law Margery Pankratz. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorials are preferred to South Zumbro Lutheran Church or Kasson American Legion or Twin Ports Care Center in Superior, WI.
