He was predeceased by: his wife Clarissa "Cindy" Lucas; his sister Ann Lee Schleusner; and his parents, Clarence Lucas and Lillie Lucas (Henke). He is survived by: his children, James Lucas (Nikie Groebner) of Courtland, Gwen Burgess (John) of Le Sueur, Richard Lucas of New Ulm and Debra Hoppe (Kyle) of Le Sueur; his grandchildren, Nicole, Josh (Rachel), Laura, Christin and Erika; his great grandchildren, Jaxson, Ryker and Tucker; his brother Ira Lucas (Sandy); and his child LaVern. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
