Mary Grant (Page) Page Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary Grant Page, formerly of Windom, MN, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family at White Pines Assisted Living in Cottage Grove, MN on Monday August 01, 2022 at the age of 83. \
Mary was born in Jackson, MN before moving at a young age to Windom. In her early 20's, Mary moved to the Twin Cities where she worked in a variety of doctors' offices and clinics before landing a career in Volunteer Services. Mary's career in Volunteerism started with the MN Council of Directors of Health Care Volunteers. She served in many capacities, including as President. Eventually, Mary moved to MMC (Metropolitan Medical Center) as Director of Volunteer Services. In the 90's MMC merged with Hennepin County hospitals, and Mary continued to working as Assistant Director of Volunteers. She then became the Director of Volunteer Services at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN where she eventually retired to pursue her love of antiques. Mary started her own antiques business and managed her own space at a variety of antiques shops in the Twin Cities. Mary eventually sold her condo in Edina, MN and returned to Windom and purchased a beautiful old home. In 2018, Mary moved to White Pines Care facility (Cottage Grove) to be near her family and is where she resided until her passing.
Mary's life was truly dedicated to serving others: whether through church or community organizations. Mary's church and community service included, but not limited to, significant involvement with Central Lutheran Church (Mpls) where she was on the Welcome Ministry and the "Clothes Closet" ministry that provided clothing to the needy. After her move to Windom, Mary was an active Member at the First Baptist Church and served as part of the Windom Chamber of Commerce, Windom Library, and was on the Windom Hospital auxiliary board and was Treasurer. Mary also volunteered for BARC (Business Arts & Recreation Center) and was a "grandparent" who read to school children and helped in the classroom of Windom schools for several years. Throughout her adult life Mary was always a wonderful hostess.. Her “star” event was hosting a grand evening for the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra in Windom.
More than that, Mary believed in caring directly for others. She demonstrated this in her undying commitment to her mother, Neal; her care of her Great Aunt Mavis; and her unfailing love for her nephew and niece. Even in her time at White Pines, Mary was a leader in her own right. She would often gather the ladies together for a chat or to join in activities, and she always had time to listen to and involve others.
In her spare time, Mary enjoyed cross-stitching and knitting. She also enjoyed cheering on the MN Twins, and meeting her friends for coffee at McDonald's. She loved her cats immensely and always had them in her home. Never one to miss a sale, Mary enjoyed hunting for a bargain. Rarely would you find Mary without her signature red lipstick!
Mary is survived by her elder brother, Gary Page (Marty) of Oakdale, MN; her dedicated nephew, Ian Page (Lisa Page, Gabi and Jeremiah) of Cottage Grove, MN; and loving niece, Rebekah (Page) Kubista (Graig) of Cheltenham, England. Mary was proceeded in death by her mother Cornelia "Neal" Page of Windom, her ex-husband Richard "Dick" Altringer and her mother and father-in-law Minnie & George Audette. She is also proceeded by her best friend and cousin Janice "Janie" Pepperdine and many beloved Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
