He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Peterson and Katherine Peterson; and his wife Peggy. He is survived by: his children, Amy Hogan (Chad) and Ben (Jill); his grandchildren, Chris, Cassie, Zac, Alec, Claire, Gabe and Dylan; his great grandchild Liam; his siblings, Casey (Eileen), David (Diane), Joel (Mary) and Karen O'Reilly (Bill); and his significant other Bonnie Nelson. He is also survived by Many Nieces and Nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
