He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Hjalmer Nelson and Ruby Lenore Nelson (Helmerson); his wife Lois Paulette "Polly" Nelson (Lehto); and his great grandchild Mercer Gustav Everson. He is survived by: his daughters, Doretta Nelson Busbey (Doug), Kathryn Nelson-Pedersen (Mark) and Stephanee Nelson Everson (Ronald); his great grandchildren, Eero Moody, Hiver Moody, Aiden Everson and Sophia Everson; his sister Charlene Anderson; his pet Toby; his grandparents, John, Tillie Nelson, Herman and Lena Helmerson; his spouse Patricia Stephens; his aunt Hjalmer; his uncle Russell Zerbach; and his friend Clifford Berglund.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Gary's name to the Lake County Humane Society, PO Box 27, Two Harbors, MN 55616.
