He was predeceased by: his parents, Dominic Ellena and Winifred Ellena (Spehar); and also, Leon and Doris Martin. He is survived by: his wife Mary; his children, Patrick Ellena (Sarah), Elizabeth Carlson (Torrey), Michael Ellena (Brittany) and Kathleen Smith (Sean); his grandchildren, Emmie, Elle, Avery, Cooper, McKenzie, Isabelle, Dominic, Mitchell, Gino, Mario and Leon; his siblings, Mark Ellena (Susan), Denise Jones (Kevin) and Carolina Shermock (Fred); and his sister-in-law Ann Hanson. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
