He was predeceased by: his parents, William Nelson and Mildred Nelson (Mickelson); his wife Peggy Nelson; his brother Forrest Nelson; his mother-in-law Lois Ball; and his sister-in-law Jodi Nelson.
He is survived by: his former wife Barbara Grooms; his children, Ben, Dana Wojceichowski (Keith) of Greenbush, MN, Jolene Nelson of Billings, MT and Brady Nelson (Amanda) of Clearbrook, MN; his grandchildren, Kally, Tylor (Brianna), Liam Wojceichowski, Isaiah Lande, Paxton Gauger, Molly, Maddy, Gus Nelson, Talia, Harvey and Elloise Nelson; his siblings, Tom Nelson of Fosston, MN, Susan Nohner (Mark) of McIntosh, MN and Peter Nelson (Mona) of Fosston; his father-in-law Robert Ball of Fosston, MN; and his friend Vernon Haaby (Martha) of Roseau, MN. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
