He was predeceased by: his parent Helga Brendalen; his brothers, Hans (Eleanor) and Anton Brendalen (Marlys); his brother-in-law Virgil Strande; and his children-in-law, Larry Tollefson and Judy Brendalen.
He is survived by: his wife June Gunderson of Clearbrook, MN; his children, John Jr. and Judy Tollefson; his siblings, Martha Ahles, Christine Strande, Arnold (Beverly) and Erling (Betty Lou); his grandchildren, Jolyn Fisher (Bill), Janell Wieder (Steven), Justin Tollefson, Laura VanDam (Chris) and Liz Tollefson; and his great grandchildren, Oliver Nelson, Gabe, Liam Wieder and Luke VanDam. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
