He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold Bartels and Leona Bartels (Pieper); his brothers, Delmer and Arvid Bartels; his siblings-in-law, Kareen, Phyllis Bartels and Leonard Eckhoff; and his grandson Eli Bartels.
He is survived by: his wife Joanne Woodard; his children, Brenda Knutson (Larry), Becky Boyer (Kevin), Bradley Bartels (Angie), Brent Bartels (Michelle), Barry Bartels (Karen), Bernal Bartels (Jennifer), Byron Bartels (Trisha), Belinda VanHoever, Bonita Chromey (Kenton), Brandon Bartels (Tabitha) and Brett Bartels (Katie); and his siblings, Marlys Eckhoff, Donald Bartels (Alice), Ronald Bartels (Patricia) and Alden Bartels (Phyllis). He is also survived by 28 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.
After having COVID-19, the couple lived with their daughter, Bonita, and her family for 7 weeks and then moved to an assisted living in Glenwood for a year and a half.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. William's Living Center in Parkers Prairie, MN.
