He is survived by: his wife Patricia; his children, Sara, Matthew (Taija) and Evan (Laura); his grandchildren, Resha, Madison Portner, Bella Hordyk, Charlotte Barnett and Luka Hordyk; and his sister Rosalie Cherrone (Fred). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

“Dougie was my maternal first cousin, our mother's were sisters. Doug and I were friends in childhood as we were a year apart. He went on to college marry, create with his beloved Pat a lovely family and served his country and his city with pride and distinction. He was a man of intelligence and fun sense of humor. Doug is loved and will be missed in the lives of his family and countless friends. Doug was a fine and fun fellow.”
