She was predeceased by: her parents, Iner Madsen and Anna Madsen (Deters); her husband Melvin C. Smith; her children, Michael and Mary Margaret; her brothers, Arnold "Peta" and Ronald "Manny" Madson; and her son-in-law David Lind.
She is survived by: her daughters, Sue Ann Succio (Bob Brown), Linda Novak, Bonnie Erickson (Len), Deborah Erspomer (Ray), Diane Betters (Roger), Barbara Swalby (Crow) and Annette Lind. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
