He was predeceased by: his father Merle. He is survived by: his wife Jane Sumi; his mother Norma; and his siblings, Mark, Dan (Eileen), Jim (Debbie), Kris (Michelle), Alan and Julie Laidlaw (John). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorials preferred to the American Heart Association or Edina Community Lutheran Church.
