He was predeceased by: his parents, George Ernst and Doris Ernst (Miquelon); and his sister Evonne Johnson. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Jean Ernst (Gisselbeck); his brothers, Richard Ernst of Cedar Rapid, IA and Ron Ernst (Esther) of Sloan, IA.; his children, Janice Ernst of Rapid City, SD, James Ernst (Cynthia) of Minnestrista, MN and Carrie Ernst of Minneapolis, MN.; his grandchildren, Tony Martin of Excelsior, MN, Danielle Martin of Morgantown, WV, Emily Ernst of Brooklyn Park, MN, Ryan Ernst (Lindsey) of Delano, MN and Joshua Painter of Hastings, MN.; and his great grandchildren, Madeline and Mason Ernst of Delano, MN..
