He was predeceased by: his parents, Oren Benson and Lydia Benson (Traeger); his wife Berniece "Bernie" Goudy; his daughter Bonnie Kay Benson; and his siblings, Corrine Jesme, Louise Robinson (Wilmer) and Carl Benson (Helen).
He is survived by: his son Dennis (Joan Benson) of Lakeville; his grandchildren, Margaret Schletz (Andy) of Rosemount and Ross Benson (Briana) of Lakeville; and his great grandchildren, Lydia, Colette, Ian Schletz, Korbin and Kyler Benson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
