He was predeceased by: his parents, Edna Otterness and Arthur Otterness; his son Arthur; his grandson Hans; and his siblings, Eldridge Flom and Helen Kvittem.
He is survived by: his wife Jessie Carpenter; his children, Tim Otterness (Ruth), Sue Bjugan and Cindy Gillispie (Pete Christensen); his grandchildren, Melody (Shawn), Angie, Tasha (Matt), Dan (Elaine) and Ryan (Holli); and his stepgrandchildren, Eric (Shakeena), Joe (Brittany) and Nina. He is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
