He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Basta and Dorothy Basta (Piel); his son Brian; and his sisters, Patty Swanson, Betty Erickson and Shirley Ritari.
He is survived by: his former wife Sheila Bonner; his wife Shirley Smetana of Pine City; his son Jerry of Pine City; and his stepdaughter Kelly Baker (Tim) of Isanti. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
