He was predeceased by: his parents, John Petersen and Jenny Petersen; his wife Lucille; his son John Charles; and his siblings, Caroline (Adolph Heimerdinger), Sonke (Corrine Petersen) and Fred (Audrey Petersen).
He is survived by: his children, Cindy Becker (Larry) of Brownsville, Joan Von Arx (Tony), Don Petersen (Sandy) of Hokah, Ron Petersen (Karen) of La Crescent, Rob Petersen (Kory Marquez) of San Diego, CA, Bill Petersen (Jodi) of La Crescent and Sandee Lehmann (Jeff) of Oregon, WI; his grandchildren, Dan Reinhart (Michelle), David Reinhart (Dawn), Jenny Schroeder (Brent), Tim Von Arx (Theresa), Andy Von Arx (Meghan), Michael Von Arx (Jenni), Tricia Papenfuss (Matt), Laura Schulze (Phil), Matt, Sarah Petersen, Jon, Josh Petersen, Hannah, Isaac, Samuel Petersen, Emilee and Eli Lehmann; his great grandchildren, Adrianna, Isiah, Ashlyn Reinhart, Makayla, Branson Reinhart, Alexis, Kody Schroeder, James, Anne, Jared, Madelyn Von Arx, Mariah, Owen, Lucas Von Arx, Vanessa, Lane, Chad Von Arx, Cullen Papenfuss, Hailey, Natalie and Connor Schulze; and his siblings-in-law, Marcellus Miller (Mac), Albert Miller (Al), Millie, Rita and Monica.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to one of the following Catholic Churches: St. Peter's of Hokah, MN; St. Mary's of Caledonia, MN and Crucifixion Church of LaCrescent, MN.
