He was predeceased by: his parents, Noal Smith and Olga Smith (Thorson). He is survived by: his daughters, Jeanne Nadenicek (Dan) of Athens, GA, Virginia Roberts (Mike) of Waterloo, IA, Cindy Plopper (Steve) of LaCrosse, WI, Marilyn Duncan (Bob) of Knoxville, TN and Susan Hougas (Mike) of Kasson, MN. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
The family prefers memorials to South Zumbro Lutheran Church or Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo, Kasson, MN.
