He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Bense and Elsie Bense (Schwanke); his siblings, Robert, William and Una Lane; his sister-in-law Darlene; and his parents-in-law, Walt and Genevieve Marty.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Ann Bense of John's Evangelical Lutheran; and his children, Christopher Bense (Teri) of Burtrum, Tommy Bense of Grey Eagle, Richard Bense (Patricia) of Abilene, Teriana Voller (Brandon) of Burtrum, Amber Toenyan (Brandon) of Grey Eagle and Kimberly Abraham (Thomas) of Pierz. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren.
