He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Saarela and Helia Saarela (Kopponen); his wife Marlene Pucel of Ely; his siblings, Albert (Madie), Roy (Lois), Robert, Richard (Alice), Lillian King (Charles), Helen Sambaum (Edward) and Florence Nelson (George); his brother-in-law Joseph J. Pucel; and his parents-in-law, Mary and Joseph L. Pucel.
He is survived by: his great grandchildren, Tim (Laura), Greg (Karen), Susan (Bob Lubovich), Kerry (Paul Beton), Brooklynn Saarela, Spencer Sebring, Liam Stein, Jensen Lubovich, Logan Filan and Lubovich; his siblings-in-law, Dick Pucel, Janice Pucel (Don Debeltz), Lorene Pucel and Jean Saarela; and also, Neal, Erin (Brian Sebring), Maddie (Bryant Stein), Ryan (Nicole), Reid (Sydney), Taylor (Dustin Filan), Alec (Courtney), Jordan, Rachel and Jake. He is also survived by his children, grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers or monetary donations to the family, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Dan.
