He was predeceased by: his parents, Einar Stengel and Johanna Stengel; his siblings, Bjarne Stengel (Arianna), Paul Stengel (Garnett) and Ann Marie Stengel; and his brothers-in-law, Fritz Zirbel and Vernon Lueth (Virginia).

He is survived by: his siblings, Einar and Johanna Stengel (Krogseng); his wife Doris Stengel; his sister Eva Stengel; his sister-in-law Lorna Zirbel; his sons, Randy Stengel (Karen) and Shawn Stengel; his grandchildren, Wendy Jo Cerna (Phil), Matthew Stengel (Heidi), Kyle Stengel, Phillip Cerna, Delaney Cerna and Livia Cerna; and his great grandchildren, Ada and Case Stengel. He is also survived by nephews and nieces.
