He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Schmitke and Alvina Schmitke (Baier); his former wife Janice Hall; his sisters, Mildred Horien (Emery) and Thief; his parents-in-law, Olaf and Mayme Hall; his siblings, Harold Schmitke (Doris), Arnold Schmitke, Otto Schmitke (Mary), Martin, Carl Jr. Schmitke, Freda Varland (John), Agnes Ostrem (Richard), Margaret Bugge (Clifford), Betty Waterworth (William) and Amy Gutterud (Elmer); and his brothers-in-law, Rueben Wold and Vernon Hall (Doris).

He is survived by: his sons, Gregory (Renate) and Mark (Kim); his wife Alyce Lund; his children, Thief and Kristi Schmitke of Fargo, ND.; his stepchildren, Rachal Erickson (Douglas) of Roseau, MN, Larry Lund (Carol), Gayle Baxter (Charles) and Kathleen Slick (Craig); and his siblings-in-law, Hedwig Schmitke of Chandler, MN, Joyce Schmitke-Prickett, Lenore Wold, Carol Halvorson (Harlan) and David Hall (Dee). He is also survived by 7 Grandchildren and 8 Great grandchildren.
