He was predeceased by: his son Timothy; his parents, Clarence Cotter and Lucille Cotter; and his niece Jenni. He is survived by: his siblings, Kathleen of Big Lake and Tim (Victoria) of Clearwater; his sons, Shane Jr. of Dayton, Shawn (Nichole) of Becker, Patrick (Joleen) of St. Louis Park and Michael (Samantha) of Becker; and his grandchildren, Joshua, Samantha, Benen, Charlie, Evelyn, Emerson and Madelyn.
