He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Berning and Janet Berning of Albertville, MN.. He is survived by: his wife Renae (Weber); his children, Diana Case (Aaron), Derek (Elizabeth), David and Danielle; his grandchildren, Levi, Jude, Maeve, Eleanor, Matthew and Lydia; and his siblings, Greg Berning (Elaine), Gordy Berning (Theresa), Betsy Vetsch (late Doug), Mary Bebeau (Brian), Susie Berning, Duane Berning (Bridget), LeRoy Berning (Nancy) and Brian Berning (Pam). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
