He was predeceased by: his parents, George Stier and Emma Stier (Gruetzmacher); his brother Donald Stier; his siblings-in-law, Mary Lou Stier and Donald Schmidt; and his grandson Andrew Stier.

He is survived by: his daughter Susan; his wife Marie Dressel; his children, Brad Stier (Jennifer Preston) of Belle Plaine, Susie Witt (Gary) of Belle Plaine, Brian Stier of Belle Plaine and Megan Chard (Dan) of Belle Plaine; and his sister Lila Schmidt of Minnetonka. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren.
