He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Hillstad and Christine Hillstad (Haugen); his nephew Wayne Aanenson; and his brother-in-law Lester Aanenson. He is survived by: his wife Linda Flikka; his children, Jarrod Hillstad (Rachel Rice) of Grand Forks, ND and Melissa Hillstad (Ron Opsal) of Bemidji, MN; his grandchildren, Joseph Hillstad, Miranda Opsal and Serenity Kerzmann (Rice); and his siblings, Orpha Aanenson and Norman Hillstad (Laurie). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
