He was predeceased by: his parents, William H. Kern and Mildred Mae Kern (Fox); and his sisters, Jean and Muriel. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Kern; his siblings, Bill, Scott Kern and Nancy French; his daughter Monica Kowaliw (Myron); and his grandchildren, Arielle, Miranda and Brianna. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.

Request that, in place of flowers, memorials would be given to Camp JIM, 1026 Camp JIM Rd. SW, Pillager, Minnesota 56473.
