He was predeceased by: his parents, George Mayen and Virginia Mayen of North Branch; his brother Steven Mayen of Bovey; and his nephew Brandon Mayen. He is survived by: his children, Russell Mayen, Debra Pulley (Craig) and Amber Mayen; the mother of his children Carol Saatela; his grandchildren, Megan Pulley, Anna Mills and Morgan Entner; and his brothers, Jeff Mayen, Michael Mayen (Joan) and Gary Mayen (Rayette). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

“I knew Dave from way back on the east side of St.Paul. One day, while at the Ely Steam Sauna (where I became a regular), I once again re-met a fellow east sider. We knew people in common, and we'd have wonderful conversations about our old neighborhoods. He was one very smart man, but he called it "done" when he settled in Ely. I understood it...... May he rest in peace. He is thought of and mentioned in sauna by all of us regulars. Bear on the Fernberg road...”
