It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Richard James Cook of Austin, Minnesota, born in Spring Valley, Minnesota, who passed away on January 23, 2022, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Cook and Myrtle Cook; his wife Cecilia Ruekert; and his brother Eugene Cook (Adonna). He is survived by: his children, Reverend Monsignor Thomas Cook, Joan Farrell (Tyler), David Cook (Becky) and Daniel Cook (Erika); his grandchildren, Holden, Clare, Linus, Kate, Bennett and Brady; and his brother Gerald Cook (Ann). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in remembrance of Richard to Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota.

I used to bring him the salary schedule from the public school where I taught when it came time for him to talk $$ with his own staff. He always told me his staff would probably teach for free but he just couldn't ask that of them. And then he would wink. He cared about them, too. As I said, a fine man.”
