He is survived by: his wife Sharon Kay Spears; his children, Michelle Attar (Michael) of Dallas, TX, Melanie McCoy (Howard) of Shorewood, MN, Nathan Toland (Emily Grace Loe) of Austin, MN and Nasha Anthony (Todd) of Birmingham, AL.; his grandchildren, Emily Rose Toland of Austin, MN, Rachel Grace Toland of Austin, MN and Madison Reagan Anthony of Birmingham, AL; his siblings, Nancy Toland of Orlando, FL and Gregg Toland (Jean) of Opelika, AL; and his siblings-in-law, Karol Toland of Cedar Rapids, IA and LeRoy Spears (Elaine) of Spencer, IA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
