He was predeceased by: his parents, Palmer Haarstad and Lillian Haarstad (Skistad); his brother-in-law Gene Larson; and his niece Tara Larson. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Hoyhtya; his children, Jon Haarstad of Alexandria, Scott Haarstad of Alexandria and Cindy Haarstad (Allen Mork) of Alexandria; his grandchildren, Alexa Verhoeven (Tony), Blake Haarstad, Nicole Haarstad and Ashley Haarstad; his great grandchildren, Tenley and Taya Verhoeven; his sisters, Laurice Swenson (Chuck) of Fergus Falls and Laureen Larson of Fergus Falls; and his nephews, Chad Swenson, Mike Swenson and Troy Larson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Hospice of Douglas County, First Lutheran Church Building Fund, or the Aastad Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
