He was predeceased by : his parents, Nels Berger and Edna Berger (Stenson); his sister Ruth; his former life partner Lillian Storbakken; his brother Harris; and his stepdaughter Annette Revering.

He is survived by : his wife Terry; his children, Steven Berger (Valerie) of Millersville, Maryland and Susan Nelson (David) of Alexandria; his stepson Jim Revering (Stephanie) of Alexandria; his siblings, Neuman Berger (Dianna) of Minneapolis, LaVonne Bubak (Ed) of Fountain Hills and Ivadell Woytassek (late Virgil) of Lidgerwood; his grandchildren, Maria Haug (Eric), Juliana Mann (Jonathan), Marc Nelson (Ashely), Amanda Feist, Sarah Erickson (Tony), Stephanie Berger (Sara Plunkett) and Amy Tornquist (Jake); his great grandchildren, Abigail, Makiah, Anika, Serena, Avery, Asia, Huck, Noah, Callum, Hallie, Elise, Jupiter, Epiphany, Alistair and Calliope; and his stepgranddaughters, Gretchen and Paige Revering. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Monday, June 17th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Tuesday, June 18th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 18th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Living Word Lutheran Church - Alexandria (1722 16th Ave E, Alexandria, MN 56308). A graveside service was held on Tuesday, June 18th 2024 at the Evergreen Cemetery (3443 Evergreen Ln SW, Alexandria, MN 56308).

Memorials in Erling's name may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Living Word Lutheran Church.
