He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Augustine Sonju and Eileen Therese Benhardus (Andreas-Sonju); his siblings, Margaret Skjerven, Ted Schuler and Andrew Sonju; and his brother-in-law Dale Williams.
He is survived by: his son Jude Sonju (Misty) of St. Joseph; his grandchildren, Braeden, Calvin, Alex and Jace; his child Janel Zappe (Craig) of Carlos; his grandchildren, Hunter, Brody and Finley; his child Andrea Sonju (Bryce Lamb) of Parkers Prairie; his grandchildren, Ashton and Hudson; his sons, Andrew Sonju (Libby) of Upland, Indiana and Alex Sonju of Alexandria; his former wife Julie Sonju of Alexandria; his siblings, Dorothy Sonju, Irene Sonju, Eleanor Theobald (Dean), Michael Sonju and Stephanie Conant (Chris); and his siblings-in-law, Mary Schuler, Diane Armstrong (Richard), John Skjerven and Dean Williams. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family, Moments Hospice, or take the time to be kind and offer something to help someone in need just like Al would while showing them love.
