He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie Nelson and Helen Nelson (Sweet); his uncles, Roger Nelson and Curt Nelson; his aunt Sylvia Thompson (Gordon); and his siblings-in-law, James Clark, Clifford Herndon, Leo Herndon, Mark Sellars, Winifred Malloy, Mary Dunaway and Margaret Sellars.
He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Clark; his daughters, Terry Whelan (Craig), Laurel Syvertson and Kari Baseman (Wade); his stepdaughter Dorothy Baldin (Mike); his grandchildren, Thomas Whelan (Taylor McCullough), Kyle Whelan (Whitney), Dereck Whelan, Shaun Whelan, Adam Whelan, Elizabeth Haberman (Tanner), Michael Whelan, Leslie Willaby (Shaun), Katie Clark (Dustin White), Cody Grabill (Mandi Hammer) and Michael Baldin; his sister Susan Staloch (Clifford); and his sister-in-law Nancy Herndon. He is also survived by 18 great grandchildren, other loving relatives and friends.
